Home / Elementary / Luke’s Make-A-Wish Believe Day Campaign Kick-off held

On Friday, November 15th 2019,  students in Hoosick Falls Central School District filled the auditorium with holiday cheer as the 2019 Make-A-Wish letter writing campaign officially began with a kick-off assembly.  Luke Hoag, the 7th grade mastermind behind the initiative, and his classmates took the stage and led the student body & faculty in a fun-filled rally full of singing, letter reading, and cheering.

Kickoff assembly for Luke's Make-A-Wish letter campaign

This is the fifth year that Luke, his family and school have dedicated themselves to the effort of collecting letters to Santa that will hopefully turn into a sizable donation from Macy’s to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Macy’s donates $1.00 for every letter delivered to Santa and on Believe Day (December 6th) they double the contribution.  Last year, over 77,000 letters were delivered by Luke on Believe Day and all those involved hope that that number will grow this year.  For the next month, the school will be collecting letters to Santa that will be delivered by Luke, his family and school representatives to Macy’s on December 6th.

When he was three years old, Luke and his family were the recipients of a granted dream by Make-A-Wish.  The experience had such an impact on him, he wanted to make sure that other children and families facing life threatening illnesses were also granted their wishes.  His hope is that they too can experience joy in a difficult time.  Luke believes in the power of a wish and believes in the hard work and dedication of his community to write and collect letters to Santa.

Luke would like to continue a challenge he added last year – collect letters from all 50 states!  After writing your letter, be sure to reach out and encourage friends and family across the country to join in!  It only takes a moment to write and mail a letter to Santa.  Please take the time to contribute to a young man’s dedication to offer hope and joy to others this holiday season.  Letters can be mailed to:

Hoosick Falls Central School
Attention: Luke Hoag
PO Box 192
Hoosick Falls, NY 12090

All letters received by Thursday, December 5 will be brought to Macy’s on Believe Day, when Macy’s donation will be doubled to $2 per letter.  Remember, you can write more than one letter or write them for your pets, infant, relatives, etc.
