As Believe Day Approaches, Luke Hoag continues to be an inspiration. He is a champion for Make-a-Wish and has been encouraging others to write letters to Santa, which he collects and brings to Macy’s in Colonie. Macy’s donates $1 for each letter collected to Make-A-Wish, and doubles that donation for the letters brought in on Believe Day, which is Friday, December 7th this year. So far tens of thousands of letters have been collected from all 50 states and as far away as South Korea.
Wednesday morning, Luke received a special delivery when representatives from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT brought in 11,025 letters.
“I’ve known Luke since he was a baby,” said Abbie O’Neill, Specialist for Student Engagement at Quinnipiac, “It is inspirational to see him put in all this time and energy.”
O’Neill brought along two students, Helen Dong and Esau Greene, who were active in collecting letters at the Quinnipiac community. They worked tirelessly to inspire others to write their wishes to Santa and specifically worked with the freshman class of 2022, who are responsible for over half of the letters collected.“For the freshmen, this is their first time away from home and being a part of something helps them feel better,” said Dong.
“It’s beautiful,” said Greene, a freshman, “Everyone is going through finals, they are stressed, and away from home and bringing them together this way is just beautiful.”
Luke and his classmates received the letters and read a few together. Luke was happy to see that so many letters were asking for wishes for others and for happiness for everyone.
“Just seeing his face and seeing him reading the letters is so inspirational,” said Greene.
There is still time to help Luke and Hoosick Falls Central School by writing a letter to Santa. Even if they don’t make it by Believe Day, letters will still be turned into Macy’s for the $1 donation. Every letter counts! You can drop your letters off at Hoosick Falls central School or mail them to HFCS ℅ Luke Hoag, PO Box 192, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.
