As the 2016-17 school year enters the final stretch at Hoosick Falls CSD, another group of dedicated staff prepare to bid farewell to their long-time second home, HFCS. At the May 2017 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Kenneth Facin recognized each retiring employee and thanked them individually for their service and dedication to the children of our community.
Linda Bird, Teacher of Elementary Education, has been with Hoosick Falls Elementary School since 2006 and was most recently teaching UPK (Universal Prekindergarten), a program she helped to grow and nurture. After 11 years of service, Mrs. Bird is flying south (er, retiring) to South Carolina with her family.
Sue Hale, Teacher of Special Education, has been with Hoosick Falls Central School since 1983 and was most recently co-teaching Kindergarten with Mrs. Fleming. Ms. Hale is excited to have more time quilting and traveling. Ms. Hale has seen many changes in her 34 years at HFCS, but now she’s ready for a change of climate as she heads south to be closer to her son, and where it (usually) doesn’t snow.
Melodee James, Teacher of Special Education, has been with Hoosick Falls Jr. / Sr. High School since 2002, most recently teaching students with disabilities in a life skills program. Mrs. James will be spending more time with nature, a passion she shared with all of us during her 15 years at Hoosick Falls. Thanks to Mrs. James, we will all appreciate walks in the woods just a little bit more.
Michelene Wilson, Teacher of Special Education, has been with Hoosick Falls Jr. / Sr. High School since 2000, most recently teaching students with disabilities in a life skills program. After retiring from a 17-year run at HFCS, Mrs. Wilson, who loves animals, will have more time to spend with her horses, dogs, cats, and an ever-changing population of foster animals.
Jan McGuire, Professional Registered Nurse, has been with Hoosick Falls Elementary School since 2000. As the Elementary School Nurse, Mrs. McGuire has taken care of countless children. After she retires, she will be spending more time with her grandchildren. Chances are, despite 41 years being a nurse, with 17 of those at HFCS, she will never full retire from taking care of cuts and scratches.
Donna Trottier, Office Aide, has been with Hoosick Falls Elementary School since 1993. Most recently working in the Elementary Office, Donna has been one half of “the Donnas”, greeting visitors with a beaming smile and always ready to help find a solution to every problem. After 24 years at HFCS, Donna is ready to spend more time with her grandchildren.
The Hoosick Falls Central School District thanks all of our retirees, who have a combined 118 years of service, for their commitment to the children of our community, enthusiastically reporting to work everyday, ready to help make our school the wonderful place it is. Thank you all, so very much. Enjoy retirement, and please come back to visit us often!
