E-cigarettes are known by many names and come in different sizes and forms.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaping is unsafe for kids, teens and young adults. It is important for parents, guardians and educators to be aware of the vaping industry and potential risks that e-cigarettes may cause.  While many think of vaping as a safer alternative to smoking there are dangers associated with this current trend among youth. This page has been created to offer you resources regarding vaping, so you can be better equipped to deal with the issue we face today.  There is a lot of information here, including videos, factsheets, websites, and photos all of which will offer you helpful information you can use when talking to youth about the dangers of vaping, including these facts:

  • Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s.1

  • Besides nicotine, e-cigarettes can contain harmful and potentially harmful ingredients, including:

    • ultrafine particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs

    • flavorants such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to serious lung disease

    • volatile organic compounds

    • heavy metals, such as nickel, tin, and lead

  • Nicotine in any form is a highly addictive drug. Research suggests it can even prime the brain’s reward system, putting teens who vape  at risk for addiction to other drugs.9
