The Hoosick Falls Jr. / Sr. High School Art Department recently hosted an ‘Empty Bowls’ event in partnership with Hoosac School and St. Mary’s Academy. This annual event brings all three schools in the Hoosick community together for a great cause, to benefit the Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA) Food Pantry.
Ms. Collins’ Ceramics students crafted handmade bowls, and this was her first year organizing this event. She said, “I am so thankful for all of the volunteers who helped out and the supporters who came to the Empty Bowls fundraiser.” She was pleased with the outcome, saying, “This year we raised $1087.57 and every penny will go back into supporting and nourishing our community.”
Eva Helft, one of Ms. Collins students that worked on the bowls said “Empty Bowls was an amazing experience. I got to design my own bowls, and it all went toward charity. “
Empty Bowls has become a tradition for the Art Department, and delicious soups were enjoyed in beautiful bowls at the May 12th event. For a $10 donation, guests were able to choose from one of the hundreds of handmade bowls. The soup was free with the bowl, and guests could choose from seven different soups made by Hoosick Falls CSD, Hoosac School, Saint Mary’s Academy, and Father Tom’s special clam chowder.
Music was provided by the Hoosick Falls Fiddle Club, with Mrs. vonSchilgen and sophomore Johnathan Warner playing a wide variety of tunes. Also, special thanks to Ms. Hartley and the Key Club for volunteering at the event.
