🎉The Unified Bowling Team took 1st PLACE in the Section 2 Bowling Tournament! 🎳Coaches Maggie Borini and Kelli Grennan were proud of the effort the students put forth and noted how wonderful it was to see the students work together for combined bowling scores. The team competed against Columbia, Corinth, and Saratoga schools in the finals. HF was down by 100 pins going into their 3rd game, and rallied to win by 60 points! The Unified Bowling Team is a part of the high school’s inclusive sports programming, which recently received National Banner Unified Champion School recognition from the New York Special Olympics. 4th Grader, Eamon Keegan, took 2nd place at the New York State Scholastic Chess Championships!! This was a 2-day, 6-game tournament, open to students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Eamon went undefeated in his section (K-5, Under 600) and placed 2nd (based on tiebreakers) out of 277 participants! Eamon taught himself chess during the pandemic when he was just 5 years old, via a mobile app, after seeing his father playing chess. He participates in Mr. Jon Millman’s Chess Club at school and works with a chess coach, Mr. Andrew Palmer, based out of Bennington, VT. Eamon has played in smaller tournaments in the past, but this was his first State Championship. Congratulations, Eamon! OUR STUDENTS NEED YOUR VOTE!!! 13 of our middle school students are involved in a video contest- "What's So Cool About Manufacturing®"! This is a first-of-its-kind contest in NYS led by the Center for Economic Growth that encourages middle school students to engage with local manufacturers and produce real-world, project-based videos that spotlight careers and pathways in manufacturing while highlighting "What's So Cool About Manufacturing®". There are 8 Capital Region school districts participating in this contest. HFCS was paired with the local division of Saint-Gobain. Students visited Saint-Gobain twice over the last few months with their "Project Coaches", Mr. Bundrick, Mr. Dailey, and Ms. Livingstone. Students used a GoPro to take video footage on the production floor, learned all about what the Hoosick Falls division produces, interviewed employees about their experiences, and asked for their opinions on what opportunities are available in manufacturing. The students then condensed hours of footage and information into a 2 1/2-minute video. The students will attend an awards event at Proctors Theater in Schenectady later this month. A local panel will judge their video, and the students may win an award for creativity, technical expertise, and/or content. They may also win a Viewer's Choice Award. This is where we need your help! Beginning at 12 a.m. on 3/5, please follow the link below to vote for our students' video. The voting window will close at 12 p.m. on 3/7. THANK YOU!!
