Underclassmen Awards 2025

Last week, our high school College and Career Center held our annual Underclassmen Awards Breakfast. Mrs. Hand, Ms. King, Ms. Thompson, and Mrs. Jelley presented prestigious awards from some of the top colleges, totalling $1,359,000! Congratulations to these students for their hard work that has gotten them to this point!

HOBY Leadership Award  The Hugh O’ Brian Youth Leadership is presented to two sophomore students who have distinguished themself through service and who have contributed significantly through their leadership to the education and motivation of youth. The HOBY Award is very prestigious and honors our chosen students for their integrity, service-driven leadership, and dedication to volunteering .In lieu of an award, they will be recognized and attending a leadership seminar event this weekend at University at Albany. This year’s sophomore recipients were chosen by a teacher vote and are, Emma Wilwol and Ryan Senecal.

Alfred University Scholars Award This award is offered to one current Junior from each high school who is taking a course of study that is college preparatory in scope and has been nominated by someone from their school as being "Outside of Ordinary." Alfred University Scholars receive a scholarship of $120,000 over the course of four years, upon acceptance at Alfred University.  This year’s recipient is Ethan McMahon.

Chatham University Rachel Carson Healthy Planet Award This award honors Chatham alumna, Rachel Carson, and is presented to one student who is committed to sustainability and is eligible for a $2,500 per year renewable scholarship at Chatham University.. In addition, all winners will receive priority consideration for Chatham University's Carson Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship to attend Chatham University! This award goes to Neal Turner.

We have two Clarkson University Awards:  These awards are for juniors who have outstanding leadership qualities and a class rank in the top 15%.

The Clarkson University Leadership Award This student will be receiving an $100,000 scholarship over the course of four years toward enrollment at Clarkson University. This award is given to Erin Conety.

The Clarkson University Achievement Award  This student will be receiving an $80,000 scholarship over the course of four years toward enrollment at Clarkson University. This award goes to Katy Howard.

Elmira College Key Award The Elmira College Key Award is presented to outstanding students who are completing their junior year of high school. The prestigious Elmira College Key carries a scholarship with a value of $22,000 per year for students who enroll at Elmira College. This year's recipient is Mattison Mulvihill.

Le Moyne College Heights Award The Le Moyne College Heights Award recognizes students who are reaching for the "heights" in the classroom and in service to their school and community. The recipient is eligible to receive a $17,000 annual scholarship to Le Moyne, and is invited to attend the Le Moyne Leadership Academy this summer. This award is given to Chyah Rhoden.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal This medal is awarded to juniors who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. This $40,000 per year merit scholarship is guaranteed for four years for each Medalist who applies, is accepted, and chooses to enroll at Rensselaer. The official Medal will be presented to enrolling Medalists in the fall of their first year at Rensselaer. This year’s RPI medal is awarded to Emma Waugh.

We have 5 awards for the Rochester Institute of Technology: Each of these awards go to students who are in the top 10% of their class.

The Rochester Institute of Technology Business & Leadership Award  This is awarded to one student from the junior class who is involved in their school and community and shows a strong interest in business. Upon acceptance, this scholarship is renewable each year for $19,000 per year and will provide up to $76,000 in undergraduate scholarship support during your time at RIT. The winner of this award is Karalina Hastings.

The Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal This award goes to a student of the junior class with superior grades in computing-related classes. If you choose to apply to RIT, you will have your application fee waived and receive an undergraduate scholarship valued at $96,000. This medal is awarded to Ava Salvesold.

The Rochester Institute of Technology Humanities & Social Sciences Award  In recognition of outstanding achievement, this student has been chosen to receive the RIT Science & Math Award and is interested in the social sciences. This scholarship  will provide up to $96,000 in undergraduate scholarship support during your time at RIT. This award is presented to Ana-Marie Cottrell.

The Rochester Institute of Technology Science & Math Award One student from the junior class with superior grades in science and/or math related classes.In recognition of outstanding achievement, the RIT Science & Math Award and a scholarship .This provides up to $96,000 in undergraduate scholarship support during your time at RIT. This recipient is Luke Giglio.

The Rochester Institute of Technology Women in STEM Award  This award goes to a student who is an outstanding female with high achievement, ability, and superior grades in science, computing, and math-related classes. For outstanding achievement, the Women in STEM Award  will provide up to $96,000 in undergraduate scholarship support during your time at RIT. We award this to Elizabeth DaRosa.

Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Academic Achievement & Social Conscience  The Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Academic Achievement & Social Conscience is awarded each year to high school juniors whose accomplishments embody St. Mike’s commitment to social justice and concern for others.  Award recipients were chosen to receive the Saint Michael’s College Book Award because they embody values held in high regard at St. Mike’s. If recipients choose to apply, they will be considered for a full tuition scholarship, contingent on an offer of admission to the College. This year’s recipients are Izabella Stefanovich and Olivia Lefebvre.

St. Bonaventure University Bonnie Scholarship In honor of academic excellence and the exhibition of and dedication to St. Bonaventure University's core values, a scholarship of $22,000 for four years, for a total of $88,000 is presented to Alexandrea Christensen.

Society of Women Engineers Award The SWE recipient is chosen by the counseling department on the basis of their achievements in math, science, and extracurricular activities. The award consists of a certificate that can be recorded on college and scholarship applications and is given to Emma Waugh.

Russell Sage College Student Sage Award The Student Sage Award recognizes students who embody the Russell Sage College motto of "Be. Know. Do." Students who receive this award are leaders who make our community stronger and have been recognized by their schools as outstanding contributors to the world around them. Russell Sage College commends them on their efforts and encourages them to continue this commitment to serving others throughout their lives. If student Sage Award recipients decide to attend Russell Sage, they will receive  $20,000 to $25,000 in merit scholarships. The recipients of this award are Izabella Stefanovich, Paylyn Poore, Alyssa Rodriguez, Alyssa Edghill, and Hailey Bedford.

University of Rochester Awards-The University of Rochester is pleased to sponsor four prestigious awards that recognize high school juniors’ outstanding achievements in leadership and academics.All nominees will have their application fee waived and will be eligible to be considered for merit scholarships worth at least $5,000 per year.

University of Rochester -The Bausch & Lomb Science Award This award goes to a student of the junior class, with high achievement and rigor in science and math classes, and positive contributions to their school and within the larger community. This year’s recipient is Emma Waugh.

University of Rochester -The  Fredrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award This award goes to a student who has demonstrated commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues, leadership and dedication to community action, strong grades and rigorous courses taken in the humanities and social sciences. This award goes to Sydne Niles.

The University of Rochester- George Eastman Young Leaders Award This award goes to a student of the junior class who has strong leadership experience at school, high grades and challenging courses, and extensive involvement in extracurricular activities. If accepted, you will be eligible for at least $20,000 over the course of 4 years. This year’s recipient is Isabella Marpe.

The University of Rochester- Xerox Award This award is for a student of the junior class who has a strong interest in innovation and/or information technology and a high level of achievement in this area. Recognition as a winner of the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology is an outstanding honor and makes you part of a select tradition at Rochester. Congratulations to Christopher St. Onge.

The Utica University Award This award acknowledges a  student of the junior class who shows a commitment to academics and extracurricular involvement and who is also enrolled in a challenging curriculum. Utica University offers a merit scholarship as recognition for outstanding achievement in all areas. Congratulations to this year’s recipient, Halley Sheldon.
