unity day 2025 middle school students in the cafeteria

Last Wednesday, our Be the Change Club organized a school-wide event to recognize Unity Day. As a District, students and staff wore orange to send a message that bullying is unacceptable and that everyone deserves to feel safe and included in our school and community. This is an event that many schools across the country participate in, and our students wanted to help share the message of kindness and to stop bullying. Fifth-grader Emily Weeden took Unity Day to another level and visited second-grade classes to read them the book One Big Heart, by Linsey Davis. She handed out heart stickers to students and also purchased pens, pins, and lanyards to give out to staff. Special thanks to Middle School Counselor, Mrs. Gabriella Sacks, and to Middle School English Teacher, Mrs. Tiffany Grant, for leading this club and helping to organize this effort.

What is Unity Day?

Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in October 2011, is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange. This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention .https://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/unity-day/
