The Hoosick Falls Panthers wrestling team turned in a dominant performance at the Ravena High School Tournament, earning the team championship in a competitive 24-team field.
The Panthers entered 12 wrestlers and had an outstanding day overall, placing 10 athletes and finishing with four finalists. Hoosick Falls consistently scored throughout the tournament, ultimately pulling away to secure first place in the team standings.
Leading the way were several individual champions and top finishers. Andy Wikenden, Luke Gillis, Ryan Senecal and Asher Colegrove were all finalists. Andy, Luke and Asher each captured first-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Jacob Jones placed 3rd, Cruz Labrie 5th, Brantly Labrie 6th, while Sam Forrest battled his way to a fifth-place finish, while Neil Turner placed eighth. Tucker Degraaf picked up a win for the team. Tommy G was 0-2.
Seniors Jacob Jones, Sam Forrest, Neil Turner and freshman Cruz Labrie locked in our first place team finish in the consolation rounds by recording bonus point pins.
Sophomore Asher Colegrove was selected as the tournaments “Most Outstanding Wrestler” after he defeated returning NYS place finisher from Saranac. Colegrove also earned “Best Finals Match” as he came from behind a 1-0 deficit late in the 3rd period in thrilling fashion, securing 2 takedowns.
The Panthers’ team championship was truly a complete team effort, showcasing hard work, resilience, and preparation as the season continues.
