Congratulations to our High School English Teacher, Mrs. Huba, on being presented with the National Honor Society's 2026 Teacher of the Year Award.
NHS students’ speech: This year’s Teacher of the Year is someone known for much more than what happens in the classroom. She is known for advocating for her students, pushing us to be our very best, and—almost always— having a Starbucks in hand.
Her students describe her as someone who never gives up on them and who leads with understanding and compassion. She is funny when things feel stressful, patient when we’re difficult, and somehow even more invested in our futures than we are at times.
As members of the Philip Leonard Chapter of the National Honor Society, we value scholarship, service, leadership, and character—this teacher exemplifies each of these pillars every day. She challenges us academically while supporting us personally, leads by example, serves her students well beyond what is required, and consistently shows integrity and care in everything she does.
It’s one thing to help students complete an assignment; it’s another to support them through college applications, big decisions, and the general chaos of life. She keeps us grounded, shows up for us every day, and reminds us that we are capable of more than we think.
For all of this and more, we are incredibly grateful. This year’s Teacher of the Year award is presented to Mrs. Huba!
