December’s "Mathematician of the Month" awards, for Mrs. Nelson’s high school classes, celebrated the Most Improved students. Each recipient showed outstanding hard work, determination, and perseverance, making meaningful improvements in their grades and/or classroom behavior. Their dedication to personal growth truly stood out.

Two of our 6th graders, Zoe Nash and Abbigail Waytkus, have an important message to share from the Be The Change Club! For the month of January, the Middle School’s Be The Change Club is hosting a "Cozy Collection" drive. Students will be collecting new hats, socks, and gloves/mittens to be donated locally, within the school, and to the community. This is also part of a House Challenge, where each item (in a bundle or separately) will earn 25 points. All items must be new and still have tags on to earn points. Items will be collected 1/12 - 1/30 and can be dropped off in House Bins. Thank you for the continued support! Reminder! The HFCSD Board of Education will hold a Regular Meeting this Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 6 - 8 pm in the High School Cafeteria.

The PTSA is pleased to offer our second free Family Movie Night of the school year! The votes are in, and the movie that was chosen was Toy Story! We are also offering Animaland. Dinner and concessions will be available for purchase again, and you are invited to get comfy and bring a blanket or chair and settle in for the movie. Admission is free! Animaland: 4 - 6 pm: Doors open at 4 pm for Animaland. Enjoy the fun of choosing & stuffing your own animal! Choose from a variety of 20 different animals (styles will vary). Animals come with a Wishing Heart and Birth Certificate and will cost $17. Add an outfit for an additional $13. (Cash, Credit, & Checks Accepted for Animaland.)
Dinner: 5:30 pm on: Let us cook for you! PTSA-sponsored dinner with pizza, crock pot dishes, popcorn, drinks, snacks, and sweets will be available for cash purchase starting at 5:30 pm.
Movie: 6 - 7:30 pm: The movie will start at 6 pm. Get your comfy clothes or pajamas on, bring a blanket or a chair, and let’s watch a free movie together!
You do not need to participate in Animaland to have dinner and/or watch the movie. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

Every year around the holidays, Mrs. Philpotts-Breese and Mrs. Sutton's students chose a painting to reproduce. This year, they chose the "Northern Lights” painting. They persevered, and their finished products were stunning!! The Student Travel Club is hosting a Bowling Tournament to help fundraise for their trip! The Bowling Tournament will be held on Saturday, January 31st, at 1:30 PM at the BBQ Lanes in Hoosick.
To make this event a success, we are asking for a little help in the following ways:

How You Can Help?
Basket donations: We are hoping for 10–12 families to donate raffle baskets. All baskets are due by January 24th

Bowling teams: We need 10 teams to fill all lanes. Each team should have 4–5 players, and the cost is $125 per team. Teams must be registered and paid to Holly Cary by January 24th

Our International Club students have been busy, learning all about France and Thailand! Students used the high school kitchen to cook alongside their Club Advisor, Dr. Yudkoff, to prepare crepes from France. At their most recent January tasting, the students enjoyed a red Thai curry and rice from Thailand. As part of this club, students also prepare PowerPoint presentations about popular food choices and instruments in the countries they are learning about. Keep exploring!

Friendly reminder that the District is using the BusRight app this year. If you haven't already downloaded the BusRight app, you can try it out! It is a great tool to get bus notifications right to your phone. 🚌

The home boys' varsity basketball game and modified wrestling match at New Lebanon have been cancelled today, 1/6/26. Information on rescheduling these will be forthcoming. The home bowling match against Hoosic Valley at 4 pm remains on schedule. ALL school activities after 6 pm are cancelled today, 1/6/26. Practice schedules may have been adjusted to accommodate these changes.

There will be a 2-hour delay tomorrow morning on Wednesday, 1/7/26.

Further information on the school day will be released early in the morning, depending on the impact of the weather overnight.

The holiday assembly in the elementary school is always a lively event! Mrs. Brownell and Mrs. Wells planned a nice skit with the Public Speaking Club, and Ms. Murphy played piano and led a sing-along for the students. Important safety message from our Town Highway Department: Please, if you can, stay off of the roads for now. They are dangerous and icy, and refreezing quickly. This is especially true on the side roads and at higher elevations. Please stay home if you can. If you must travel, please drive very slowly and take extra precautions.
