Today, May 6, is National Nurses Day! We are so grateful to have our school nurses here at HFCSD: Nurse Jane, Nurse MacDonald, and Nurse Reyman. The Middle School made them a special sign to thank them for all they do for our school and students!

Mrs. Glover and her first-grade team wanted to update everyone on their results from the 14th annual Project: Cameron's Story "Bookraiser" and Read-A-Thon events in February. Through an elementary school hat day and donations collected from first- grade families and members of our HFCS community, they collected a total of $910.65 to be used towards the purchase of brand new books that are being sent to Project: Cameron's Story. Using the funds donated, 204 books were sent, and they received 151 books from their Amazon wishlist link. That is a total of 355 books donated from our HFCS community! That is 355 families who will be provided with the opportunity to bond with their newborn infants through reading to them. Mrs. Glover and the first-grade team shared that they “feel proud that our community has been able to help keep Cameron Quartiers' memory alive by continuing to contribute to this foundation year after year. It is an honor to be able to give the gift of reading to help foster bonding between parents and infants born into local NICU facilities and provide comfort to families in what can be very scary, uncertain times for them. Supporting this foundation year after year truly shows our school community's commitment to the importance of family and reading to young children, even as early as infancy.” Thank you to the first-grade team for organizing this effort and to everyone who supported Project: Cameron's Story!
Beneski Museum of Natural History at Amherst College recently welcomed High School Science Teacher Ms. Dansin and her Paleontology students for an exciting field trip focused on prehistoric life and Earth’s history. Students explored fossil evidence of mammoths, mastodons, and the evolution of horses, while also viewing Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops skulls.
During the visit, students learned about the coevolution of Earth’s atmosphere and biosphere, as well as the extinction of non-avian dinosaurs. Ms. Dansin shared that students found it especially fascinating to see fossil evidence showing that some dinosaurs had feathers. Thank you for sharing this memorable learning experience, Ms. Dansin!

This morning, our Cafeteria Manager, Mr. Fleming, and crew created an amazing menu for our HFCSD annual Staff Appreciation Breakfast. 🎉This week is staff appreciation week! 🐾 The PTSA is appreciating all of our staff with "Wellness Goodies" in baskets all around the school. They are hoping these goodies help the staff take a moment for some self-care and give them the push to finish this year off strong.
