The Class of 2025 has 2 Eagle Scouts, Matthew Angell and Lucias Gaillard! Both seniors did their Eagle Scout projects at local cemeteries here in Hoosick Falls. Matthew earned his Eagle Rank on 2/20/25, and Lucias earned his Eagle Rank on 3/19/25. Lucias is very interested in history, and when he found out many of the founding fathers of Hoosick Falls were buried in the Old Maple Grove Cemetery, he felt compelled to do his Eagle project there. Especially after learning Walter A Wood is buried there! There were many overgrown sections of the cemetery, and the cemetery committee agreed that Lucias should complete his project around the end of the fence line and near the mausoleum. Thanks to Mr. Kinney and the Latham Home Depot’s donation of a bush hog, Lucias was able to cut down many berry bushes and overgrowth. Lucias would also like to thank Mr. LaFamme and Mr. Morin for the use of their trailers. Matthew’s Eagle Scout project focused on St. Mary’s Cemetery, with the support of his family, community, and BSA troop, and had three projects in one. Matthew is a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, and he has spent some time in St. Mary's Cemetery for a summer job, along with several Memorial Days, placing flags for veterans. Matthew decided to bring attention to the cemetery entrance sign, laying stone and adding solar lights. He also updated the Mary Garden. It wasn’t draining well, and with the help of a few family friends, it was regraded, they built a new retaining wall and paver patio, and added low-maintenance plantings. The Mary statue was also repainted, and solar lighting was added. The third piece was plotting 504 veteran graves. All 504 were found, unearthed if needed, and added to a spreadsheet sortable by name, military branch, date of birth, and death. When placing flags for Memorial Day or any other event, it will now be much easier to pay respect to our veterans. Like many cemeteries, Old Maple Grove and St. Mary’s only have so much money for upkeep. The majority of funding covers mowing, but every year brings a new battle against weeds and overgrowth. Matthew and Lucias hope that their work inspires the community to become more aware and to possibly create a community work day in the spring, so the cemeteries can get the attention they need. Keep up the great work, Matthew and Lucias! Your Hoosick Falls community is proud of you!

A Note From the Hoosick Falls High School College and Career Center: SAT® registration is now open for the 2025-26 testing year. Many colleges remain test-optional, however, some colleges require an SAT or ACT for admissions. There are other colleges that require one of the tests, depending on the major you plan to pursue. Please be mindful to check each college website to confirm. We will review testing protocols during our College Prep Boot Camp, August 5th, 6th and 7th. Please let Ms. Hand or Ms. King know if you are a student interested in attending camp. Please be sure to schedule an appointment if you have specific concerns or questions relating to college and career plans. Most juniors take their first SAT in the spring, and many take it again in the fall of their senior year to improve their score. The SAT can help you keep your college options open, demonstrate your unique strengths, and even qualify for scholarships. Please contact your Counselor with questions! Visit the College and Career Center's website: https://sites.google.com/a/hoosickfallscsd.org/hfcs-college-and-career-center/home-1?authuser=0 To register for the test, visit: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/dates-deadlines?SFMC_cid=EM1420862-

The Hoosick Falls Central School District sends its deepest condolences to the family of Robert Bornt. Beyond his work with the fire department, NYS Department of Transportation, local sports programs, and many other community endeavors, Robert was also a longtime school bus driver of Hoosick Falls Central School District. The response to Robert's passing has been enormous. We join together with the community to assist with his services on Saturday, June 7th. The HFCSD parking lot will be used for parking for the services for Robert Bornt, Saturday, June 7th. Fourth graders visited the Louis Miller Museum yesterday. Their program was called Who’s Who in Hoosick History BINGO Challenge. The students filled in the descriptors on a BINGO card with the names of people from our community who impacted our history. The students loved learning about local history and stories about all of the people who have made Hoosick such a special place. The program was designed by Mrs. Brownell with support from Joyce Brewer, and the volunteers of the Hoosick Township Historical Society. Mrs Brewer awarded a Stewart’s ice cream card prize to each of our BINGO participants!

The Class of 2027 recently partnered with local business Tiashoke Farm to sell their beef products for a spring fundraiser. The fundraiser included an option for people to buy 2 lbs of frozen ground beef to be donated to the Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA) Food Pantry. Jessica Zeihm from Tiashoke Farm worked with the school and committed to matching donations that were sold. As a result of this joint effort and the generosity of Tiashoke Farm, 76 lbs of frozen ground beef was donated to HACA today! Lynne Tecker from HACA met with Jessica and the 2027 Class Officers and Advisors to accept this donation. Lynne advised that this amount of ground beef should last for approximately two weeks at the Pantry. Thank you to Tiashoke Farm and to all who supported this fundraiser! Photo includes Jessica Zeihm from Tiashoke, Lynne Tecker from HACA, 2027 Class Officers Emma Wilwol, Troy Brown, Payton Dailey, Aidyn DeGraaf, Madison Myers, and Gracie Hastings. 🎉Congratulations to senior Cole Ziehm, who received a Fellowship Scholarship from Cornell University!! Only 500 students out of the 5,800 accepted students receive this prestigious nomination. He will be joining a select cohort of peers who exhibit a strong work ethic and commitment to service. This award embodies Ezra Cornell, the founder, who believed that work was an essential element of students' education. Cole exemplifies Cornellians' creative and practical thinking. Congratulations to Cole and his family for this recognition! (Thank you to our School Counselor, Ms. King, for the update!)
