High school students participated in our annual Wellness Fair last week. Students had to choose a health-related topic to research and then create a presentation for their peers. This is always a fun activity for the students, as it is a student-led event and an active way for them to engage in discussions surrounding various health topics. Sixth-grade teachers proudly wore custom "Be Like Blake" shirts yesterday to celebrate and honor one of their outstanding students who has exemplified exceptional character and served as a positive role model throughout the school year. The shirts represent the faculty's recognition of Blake's inspiring influence on classmates and the school community, encouraging others to follow his example of kindness, dedication, and positive leadership. 🐾 (Thanks for capturing this, Mrs. Fleming!)

Our high school teachers and counselors are always encouraging students to think about their futures and what path they might see themselves on. Over the last few months, students have participated in numerous field trips and events to get their minds working! Sophomores visited Southwest Tech in VT to explore their program options for the junior and senior years. Students attended a Showcase at the State University of New York at Albany, and attended the Hoosick Falls Job Fair & Career Expo so they could learn more about what options are available locally. Last week, counselors arranged for colleges to come right to the school for our College Caravan, and students had the chance to ask plenty of questions and learn more about what programs the schools have to offer. To see more pictures, head over to our Facebook page!

Spring is always an exciting time in the elementary school! Students in the younger grades build peep houses and go on egg hunts before spring recess, and then come back to incubators filled with real eggs to hatch while they learn about life cycles. The students are always filled with wonder as they anticipate hatching day! (Thank you to our kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade teachers for offering this learning opportunity and sharing these pictures, and to the local farms that donated the eggs to hatch!) Everyone in the community is welcome to attend this free event, happening at HFCS tomorrow, 5/10! Join author Mariah Blake for a compelling discussion about her new book, They Poisoned the World. Mariah will be in conversation with Brendan Lyons of the Times Union and several Hoosick Falls residents. The forecast is calling for rain, so there will be hot coffee and plenty of amazing baked goods that Michelle Martinez Vandemark made in honor of her brother, Marcus Martinez, for tomorrow's event! The Bennington Bookshop will also be at school, selling copies of the book.  ABOUT THE BOOK They Poisoned the World: Life and Death in the Age of Forever Chemicals is a landmark investigation of the chemical industry’s decades-long campaign to hide the dangers of forever chemicals told through the story of Hoosick Falls and its successful fight for clean drinking water. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mariah Blake is an investigative journalist whose writing has appeared in The Atlantic, Mother Jones, The New Republic, The New York Times, and other publications. She was a Murrey Marder Nieman Fellow in Watchdog Journalism at Harvard University. As part of her book research, she spent eight years following the Hoosick Falls story. ABOUT THE HOST Brendan J. Lyons is a managing editor for the Times Union overseeing the Capitol Bureau and investigations. Lyons joined the Times Union in 1998 as a crime reporter before being assigned to the investigations team. He became editor of the investigations team in 2013 and began overseeing the Capitol Bureau in 2017. It was Lyons who broke the story of the water contamination in Hoosick Falls back in 2016.
