Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day and we are so grateful for our SRO, Deputy Garhartt! He goes above and beyond to get to know our students and staff, and his sidekick, K9 Eddie, brings smiles wherever he goes. Recently, Deputy and School Social Worker, Mrs. Shea, visited with the 4th grade students. Deputy read the book, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" and spoke with the students about being kind and what it means to be a "bucket filler". He then took some time to let the students ask him questions so they could get to know him better. Thank you for all you do for our school, Deputy Garhartt!

The first-grade "Bookraiser" to benefit Project: Cameron's Story is going on now! This Bookraiser is part of the first-grade community service project and helps support a foundation called Project: Cameron's Story. The foundation places a “brand new, quality children’s book in the hands of every parent of a premature baby upon admission to the NICU”. Recently, 3rd and 4th-grade students attended a "Birds of Prey" assembly presented by the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York. Presenters, Trish Marki and Delaney Dyer shared their knowledge with the students and students got to see five raptors, right in the high school auditorium. Students had up-close experiences with an Eastern Screech Owl, an Aplomado Falcon, a Barred Owl, a Turkey Vulture, and a Eurasian Eagle Owl, which they saw take flight! The assembly was sponsored by the Holiday Match Grant through the Stewart's Foundation, which the Wildlife Institute applied for and was awarded. Students in Mrs. Brownell's 4th-grade class made thank you cards which will be mailed to the Stewart's Foundation for this opportunity. For more information about the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York, visit their website: https://www.silentwingsraptors.org/

Happy National School Counseling Week! We are grateful for our School Counselors Mrs. Sacks, Mr. Long, Ms. Thompson/Mrs. Hand, and Ms. King. 🐾
A message from the American School Counselor Association: This week, we honor our counselors for being actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents; for working in partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world; for focusing on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, career and social/emotional development; and working with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves. School counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in school counseling. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.

Our students and staff have so many tasty options for their school lunches! Today, all grades enjoyed one of our most popular hot lunch menu items: Pasta with Meatballs! Our cafeteria staff makes the homestyle marinara sauce on-site and serves the main course with fresh salad, green beans, and toasty garlic bread for dipping. Did you know all HFCSD students can enjoy free breakfast and lunch for the 2024-2025 school year?
